Why Therapy?

We all want to feel at home in our own skin. Yet many of us go through life feeling alienated from ourselves, whether because of fear and anxiety, sadness and grief, guilt and shame, or a deep and abiding sense that we are not living the life we were meant to live. We judge ourselves relentlessly, even as we give others the benefit of the doubt.

Therapy gives us a chance to express our most intimate thoughts and feelings, to connect with our deepest desires, and to heal old wounds. By doing so, we make room for the parts of us that rarely, if ever, see the light of day. We learn to value those parts, thus forming a deeper connection to ourselves. In the process, we realize our own inherent worth.

As children, we have so much creative potential, but as we grow older we tend to lose touch with that playful, spontaneous part of ourselves. This is the same part of us that makes us feel alive, that gives us a sense of vitality in our everyday lives. Therapy helps to re-establish our connection to the creativity within us, and this in turn allows us to move through life with a greater sense of meaning and purpose.
